Bookings for the much-awaited Lakhtakiya’ car Tata’s Nano kicked off on Wednesday. Several residents seized the opportunity in booking
their dream car’ at the Tata Motors showrooms and through banks across the state.
A large number of people booked the Nano through banks, while very few paid the full amount. The rush was insignificant in showrooms as banks had opened special booking counters and the Nano put on display.
The branch manager of Tata Motors Finance Limited, Sumeet Partha, said, “Among the applicants, most of them were from the middle class, be it service holders or businessmen. Most preferred loans instead of buying Nano at one go,” said Partha.
On the first day, apart from banks, hundreds of booking forms were also submitted at different Tata Motors showrooms of the state capital. Throughout the day, people flocked Basudeb Auto Limited (a Tata Motors showroom) with car booking forms in hand. Sumedha Kataruka, the showroom owner, said, “Everyone could hardly contain their excitement and enquired a lot about the car. We received a sizeable number of bookings and hope that the figures would be far more encouraging in the future,” said Kataruka.
Baria Kachap, a railway clerk, said he had booked his Nano. He added that his fate would decide whether he is among the lucky few to get his Nano in the first lot. Similarly, the booking rate in other Tata Motors showrooms of districts like Bokaro, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Daltonganj and other remained normal.
Rajender Singh Jaggi, a showroom owner at Bokaro, said, “We have received only 60 booking forms. “People are coming in with more queries than for booking forms. Hope that sales picks up in the days to come.”
